April Member of the Month: Taylor Jax

As a coach we always look forward to the athletes who come into the gym ready to train, but more than that we all know that what we truly cherish are the people who are going to bring something positive or unique to the gym. From the moment that Taylor walked through the doors of CFNP it was clear that she was going to be one of those athletes. Despite working long and grueling hours at a hospital, every time Taylor walks through the doors she has a smile on her face and a positive attitude. If it is a day where she isn't going 100% herself, she is the first one to encourage others through their workout. No matter what Taylor seems to be going through her positivity radiates throughout the gym. Read below to find out more about this fun loving member and there is no doubt you will see her smile soon!

How long have you been Crossfitting

I’ve been CrossFitting for about 7 months which is crazy to believe. It feels like longer!

What made you try CrossFit?

I wanted to try out CrossFit because my husband recommended it. I had originally been going to Orange Theory for a while and wanted more muscle growth so Nathan told me to try out where he was going. After my first class at CFNP I knew I wanted to continue going.

What has been your biggest accomplishment while at CFNP?

My biggest accomplishment would probably be competing in a CrossFit competition with Tawny! I never would have imagined doing a competition before and I’m thankful I got the chance to. It really showed me how much I’ve learned during these last few months while at CFNP.

What’s the best thing(s) about CFNP?

The best thing about CFNP is the coaches! The coaches at CFNP are all unique and helpful in different ways. I’ve never been to a place where I felt comfortable asking each coach a question and trusting in their recommendations. They support me when I feel like I’m having a hard time with a movement, they push me to not give up when I want to, and they laugh with me when I do something completely wrong. Each coach has different music styles and different coaching styles which I believe makes each day new and unlike the last. I appreciate all their support and how they truly try to help each person in class do their best.

Which class time do you most commonly attend?

Usually my husband and I go to the 6:30 pm class. Sometimes if we want to spice things up we go to the 5:30 pm class lol

Is competing one of your goals?

I never really considered competing until after I’d been crossfitting for over a year, but then Tawny convinced me to be her partner for one. I had a lot of fun preparing for it and during the day of the competition! If anyone is ever considering doing a competition I would recommend it!

Do you have any advice for someone on the fence about trying CrossFit or joining CFNP?

I would say if someone is on the fence about trying CrossFit they need to come on a Saturday to CFNP. Partner workouts are the best when you’re new and trying to learn. You really get the chance to see how to be a team and have someone cheering you on the whole time.

What keeps you motivated?

Usually my motivation comes from how competitive I am with my husband. If he can do a lift that I think is pretty cool then I’ll usually try to push myself to be able to do it.  He helps me step out of my comfort zone and reminds me how far I’ve come when I get frustrated.

How has CrossFit changed your life?

CrossFit has become more apart of my life than any other workout regimen I’ve used. This is probably the most consistent thing I’ve done for working out mostly because I enjoy it. CrossFit has taught me to keep pushing forward because what movement may be difficult now could become much easier after a few weeks of practice. It teaches you the life lesson of never giving up and not to cheat yourself when times get rough.

What has been your favorite workout and why?

This is a hard question to answer because I really enjoy a lot of the workouts we do. I love powerlifting, handstand push ups, and EMOMs. Anything that doesn’t involve burpees or the assault bike makes me happy haha

What is your favorite cheat item?

My favorite cheat item is KitKats!! I love them so much!!

Anything I missed that you would like to share?

         I don’t think so.
