Happy New Year! We're starting off 2019 with a Member of the Month that's long overdue: Brian Knosp! You may know him as the guy who wins every leaning challenge, or as the guy who can run and row for days without breaking a sweat, or as the guy with what may be the happiest dog on the planet. He wasn't always that way though (well, I can't account for the dog's mood). Read on to hear his story on how he got here today:
How long have you been CrossFitting?
I’ve been CrossFitting for about six and half years.
What made you try CrossFit?
I had started running marathons and, naturally, I was doing a lot of running. I knew I needed to
add some cross training to mix things up a bit, and I wasn't getting what I needed out of going
to the gym by myself. I had read some articles about CrossFit and looked around on-line for
boxes near me -- CFNP seemed to have a good overall program with excellent reviews. I went
in for the Intro Class, got through Foundations, and survived my first class (which was "Cindy"),
and have been doing it ever since.
What has been your biggest accomplishment while at CFNP?
I don't know if there’s one big thing, but I'm always happy when I can do a given workout Rx,
because I can still remember a time when I couldn't do anything Rx.
What’s the best thing(s) about CFNP?
I like the group and community atmosphere of the classes because it makes it feel like
everybody's in it together and we’re all rooting for each other. No matter what sort of day I've
been having, I can always come in and make it through the workout with everybody else.
Which class time do you most commonly attend?
I’m a regular at 5:30pm, but sometimes I'll make a guest appearance at 9:00am.
Is competing one of your goals?
I have done a competition before but I wouldn’t necessarily say it's one of my goals. I had a
great time and I liked that it pushed me in new ways, but I keep coming to classes for the day-
Do you have any advice for someone on the fence about trying CrossFit or joining CFNP?
If you're thinking it might be for you, definitely give the Intro class and Foundations a try. Don't
be afraid to ask questions– the coaches and other folks at the gym are always more than happy
to help you out. And once you start, stick with it!
What keeps you motivated?
I like seeing measurable progress over time, so the more chances I have to make it in to classes,
the more I'm able to improve. I usually make sure I get into the gym if the day's WOD features
a movement I know I'm not that great at, because it's a perfect chance for me to work on it.
How has CrossFit changed your life?
Growing up and even through college, I was on the "husky" side. I really only started exercising
regularly and taking better care of myself in my early 30s, around the time I started running. It
wasn't until I joined CFNP and learned a lot about nutrition and new ways to work out that I
feel like I got myself into a much healthier place.
What has been your favorite workout and why?
"Murph" is definitely one of my favorite workouts – I'm partial to the longer ones.
What is your favorite cheat item?
There are too many to list. I love bad food, I can't help it.
What is your favorite activity to do outside the gym?
I don't run the longer races anymore but I still do like to get out of the gym and run, swim, and
hang out with my dog.
Anything I missed that you would like to share?
Just want to say thanks to all the coaches and members at CFNP. It's been great working out
with you all and you keep me inspired and coming back each day!
